Do you think you could change a child's life in four hours?
Giving just a couple of hours of your time twice a month can mean the difference between success and failure in a foster child's life. Mentoring gives you the opportunity to be a positive role model, sounding board, and friend to a child in transition. Adults who invest their time as mentors can change a child’s life. These positive influences are absolutely crucial to teenagers as they try to find their way through life.
Being a mentor does not require a psychology or social work degree, nor does it require you to be incredibly creative. Foster children are just that - children - and they enjoy the same activities as other children their age. We encourage you to bring a child into your world.
Share the activities you enjoy, biking, swimming, sailing, skiing, sports, reading, fishing, gaming, cooking, etc. These are just some of the many examples of fun activities you can share with children. All they really want to know is that you, as a mentor, see them as precious and are willing to spend time with them. Children need unconditional commitment- someone who is willing to share the fun stuff and help go through the hard stuff. Bring them into your world and help them to expand their world. You'll be glad you did!
